    Of Kilts and Cars

Warning - too much time to think here
In trying to define a kilt, I got to thinking of defining cars (automobiles) too. The analogies seem endless.
Kilts seem to be pleated with wrap around design, aprons and air conditioning with many exceptions.
Automobiles seem to have four wheels and air conditioning with many exceptions.

Some Like the Jag XK-E and many others of the era were drop dead georgeous but a maintainance nightmare.

The older cars had 4-60 AC - four windows down / 60 miles an hour. Same as the tank kilts.
Modern AC is like the lighter fabrics and designs.

Older cars and traditional kilts only had cup holders as an add on purchased seperately like sporrans.
Many modern kilts and cars have them built in. Either discreetly like some slash and apron pockets, or overtly like the cargo pockets.

The materials and finishes on newer cars and fabrics on kilts are more durable and low maintainance.

The newer kilts and cars are more complicated.

Kilts and cars go from full dress limosines to totaly utilitarian work trucks and commuter beaters.

Some became classics and some should have stayed on the drawing board.

Some perform well and some only look the part.

Coffee cup empty for now. What analogies come to your mind?

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

    What about kilts vs. houses?

LOL - I did recently calculate that I have enough kilts to "skirt" my house one and a half times .... With 5 left over to wear!

Joe - got me - double wide 26 x 50 mobile home. If I actually did it, would I qualify for redneck status? But my family tree does have branches and none rejoin the tree - Although I have Rocky making me a NASCAR tartan casual kilt - with apologies to the MacPherson Clan.

Gillespie is circled, a Sept - Will be spending part of christmas with three generations of them. Will see if the tartan is recognized (they are Canadian Scots) and whether a necktie party ensues.

Nothing wrong with redneck or NASCAR, I resemble that remark! LOL. And wear your kilt anyway. I wore mine to Golden Coral, and then to visit Mom, and Dad. Mom, who until the 80's wore only skirts and now wears pants told me she prefers I wear pants. I told her if she'd go back to just skirts I'd think about it. She shook her head and walked away. No more out of her about it. it was fun.
