When it comes to funny place names, I think the fact that, when going from Blue Ball, Pennsylvania, to Paradise, Pennsylvania, one normally goes through Intercourse, Pennsylvania, pretty much takes the prize.

Geoff, you left out the other nearby Pennsylvania cities of Mt Joy and Virginville. They help round-out the discussion.

Lest we forget Orgasm, PA; French Lick, IN and my personal favorite; Whiskey Dick, WA. I recently ran across Toad Suck, AR. Trying to figure out how that one came about.

Glad to see that Old Sodbury made the list. I spent the first 21 years of my life in Chipping Sodbury which is 2 miles down the road from Old Sodbury. Chipping Sodbury (known locally as Sodding Chipbury) is famously mentioned in the film Carry on Cowboy as Marshall P Knutt (played by Jim Dale) has a certificate from the Chipping Sodbury Town Plumbers Guild. ( which doesnt really exist).

Where I live now on the edge of the New Forest is also awash with unusual place names. Nomansland is nearby. So too is Longslade Bottom and a bit further afield in Dorset is the river Piddle and the village of Piddletrenthide,

    Chortle!

I've been there, I think--nestled on the shore of mighty Lake Flacid?

There's not many odd or un-normal town/place names in NC, just Eldorado, Loafer's Glory, Havelock, Luck, Ledger, Penland, and Scotland County. Nothing really unique, except for Mount Airy which was the inspiration for Mayberry. We do have Love Valley, and yes, lots of lovin' does go on there.

Better than Shitterburg would be. There is always Frog Level, Va....Bucksnort, Tn. And Bumpas Mills, Tn. And the ever popular Soddy Daisy Tn.
