Kilt belt question

I have my first kilt being made as we speak.I should have it in about 7-10 days. it is semi-trad Blackwatch. The vendor I was thinking of useing is out of silver buckles, but recommends useing a brass buckle on a black belt. would this look ok?

I have absolutely no idea what a semi-trad kilt is, but if you think it will look alright, then go for it.
But ; I am surprised that your kiltmaker is out of silver buckles, though, they're not hard to source. You need to ask yourself, will brass buckles go with any sporran/sporran chain/kilt pin/belt.sgain dubh made from a silver metal that I might wear?

See USAKilts Semi Traditional Kilts for a long answer. In short machine sewn in Poly Viscose material with 3-buckles and knife pleats, though I believe USAKilts will do box pleats if asked.

The Black Watch RHR of Canada wears a polished brass colored buckle with a green web for every day wear and a white belt for dress occasions
a black belt with a brass buckle should look just spiffy with your new kilt.
Remember the history of the tartan that you are wearing and wear it proudly.

It will only look ok if YOU think it does. My first choice would probably be silver with a black kilt, but I would also wear brass or gold. It is entirely a case of personal preference. It you really prefer silver, ask the vendor when he will have silver buckles, or look for another vendor.

Personally, I'm a fan of yellow metals like brass or bronze. Silver and chrome are awesome, but there comes a time where the shine of silver overwhelms the kilt. For me, my daily choice of buckle is brass or bronze, depending on which belt I grab. For the OP, I recommend either black or brown belt with brass buckle; it will look awesome with the Black Watch kilt. Nothing wrong with silver/chrome, either... All look sharp, and the BW kilt will showcase nicely.

The "Semi Traditional Kilt" is a term that we coined in 2005 for our model that was nicer and looked more traditional than our Casual kilt, but still made in PV cloth (not "traditional" wool material). As far as I know, we're the only kiltmaker to use that term for one of our models.

As 2 small points of clarification, we always use (and have never run out of) silver buckles on our kilts unless the customer provides his / her own brass buckles and we only make knife pleated kilts... not box.
