    Hello from Utah!

Hello fellow kilters! I am fairly new to the Kilt wearing community, so I am still getting the hang of the traditions and the in's and out's. I purchased my first Kilt about a year ago in the U.S. Army tartan. I love wearing it! I actualy try to wear it once a week every Friday with my red shirt to support the troops. I have been doing some family history research and have found that I have some Scotish, Welsh and English in my background. With that being said I'm not sure which family tartan is most appropriate for me to wear or if it is traditionally ok to wear any of them?

Welcome from North Texas. I think your first kilt choice and reasoning are sound.

Welcome to X-Marks from a fellow Utahn!

As to which tartan to wear, opinions vary, but you can find a number of threads on it using the search function. In short, if your surname is Scottish, wear the tartan associated with your surname; if not, pick the closest Scottish name/ancestor in your family tree and wear that tartan.

EDIT: And if none of the Scots names in your tree are associated with a particular clan, you can always wear the district tartan from the area in which they lived, or a "universal" tartan that catches your eye.
