The ancient smith has a large sett because the yellow and red lines alternate, so it's not unusual for some creative pleating to be used otherwise a huge ammount of fabric will be needed. This is one I made last year and I pleated it to alternate lines, but even so I used a little over 8 yards
And on the inside all the pleats were not uniform, but from the outside everything looks the same!

    Thanks paulhenry!

I saw that photo before and was thinking of having my kilt being made like that, but I also know that Smith is a bit tricky because the sett is so large.
But I was wondering if it wouldn't have at least been possible to repeat the sett regularly...
Would you say this couldn't be done with a 5 yard kilt?

    Thanks.

I would have thought that they could have done something which looked a bit more like the regular sett, it does seem a "tad" creative. 5 yards doesn't allow a lot of tolerance, but even so....

Ok...so you think it's acceptable though...from the professional point of view...?

It's difficult for me to say really, except I wouldn't have done it that way, I always like to centre the back pleats to the same sett portion as the front, even if that means that the first and last pleats at the sides lose the coloured stripes.

    Yes...i tought the same.
This seems to be a kind of opposite symmetry.
    A special solution....

I'll try to make it my own :-)
