Your kilt looks great and you look great, even with a "not right" shirt. I kind of like it myself. I really like the look of your other accessories, too, especially your belt and sporran.
Assuming it could not be pleated to sett in 5 yards, then they created a pattern that I find pleasing - kind of expanding rectangles from the center back. It looks fine. Congrats and happy kilting.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I think the shirt looks fine and you can simply explain that your faith prevents you wearing shoes on a balcony!

Because the sett is so large, I think the kilt-maker has been a bit clever with the pleating. I think it works well. I doubt that anyone else will notice. And, of course, it looks good on you as well - enjoy Rüsselsheim.

Your shirt and shoes and all are just fine! Checked shirts are quite "classic" with the kilt.
I must say that I don't care for the way that kilt was pleated. I would have preferred not attempting to pleat that tartan to the sett, and instead pleating to the line, for example pleating to the dark blue line in the centre of the large light blue area, which occurs twice as often in the sett as do the yellow or red lines, or pleating to a vacant light blue area (the so-called "pleating to the block").
Canadian military kilts in Hunting Stewart tartan, which have the same issue of very widely-spaced yellow and red lines, solve the issue by pleating to the line, alternating between red lines and yellow lines:

Thank you all for the encouragement!
I was told before that the pleating could be a little problematic with the large sett.
My next will be an 8 yarder...don't know the tartan yet, but I hope it'll be still this year.
Thanks , Tom

Personally, I like it. The pleating is a bit unorthodox but it looks fine. If you are happy with it then I am happy for you. Enjoy your new kilt, mate.
As to the shirt, normally I would not match a plaid or chequered shirt with a tartan, however, in this case it seems to work all right.
Very nice! Keep on kilting!

Who cares about the pleating. If someone is looking at the rear of your kilt so much that they are noticing the pleat pattern, consider yourself flattered
Looks great on you and appears to fit rather well. Congratulations on the new kilt.
