My fiance are going to The Scotsman in Edinburgh for afternoon tea on our honeymoon. The kilt part is easy. 80) What do you suggest for the upper body? Or perhaps shed some ideas on the dress style appropriate for an afternoon tea.
Is this the place you mean: http://www.thescotsmanhotel.co.uk/the-scotsman It is a 5* establishment, so shirt and tie and tweed Argyle and waistcoat. Matching hose with nice turnovers. No tartan flashes. Regards Chas

That's the place! I was hoping to not bring my jacket and waistcoat with me as I'm coming from Canada. Any other alternatives?
As Chas said. No bling, no bonnet. Jacket and tie required. Rent them, if necessary. You will definitely be out-of-place at The Scotsman without them and may not even be permitted in the door without proper dress. Scotfree's question: tartan flashes are supplied by kilt hire firms but are not otherwise worn in Scotland.

However, definitely jacket (argyle, crail etc.) and tie with hose as Chas described and appropriate leather shoes.

Good thing I asked! I have an appointment to try on brogues Tuesday at a kilt shop that also does hire and I will find out if I can rent a tweed. Now...what do you suggest my bride wear? A summer dress? Something formal?
The teas my bride of 35 years attend around here are normally dressy affairs. Now this is southern Pennsylvania and does not compare to where you are going. I would tend to say that if will need a jacket it may be dressier than a summer dress. If it is in the area why not go look in and if you can get a feel.
