Wonderful kilt. I remember corresponding with you about the tartan when you first found the cloth.
What makes this version of the Rose tartan so nice is that it actually follows the description in the Vestiarium Scoticum which mentions two different shades of red.
The way it is always woven today by the mills uses the same shade of red throughout. Here's the modern version.
And here is the way it was originally illustrated in the VS.
I much prefer the two-red version myself, as it adds a lot more depth and richness to the tartan.
Thanks for all the compliments. As far as tartan goes, this is definitely my favorite kilt. As for the belt, that is from the Potomac Leather Company. Here's a thread I posted on it many moons ago...http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...ne-belt-30542/.
And Brian, Nicole and I really miss you, sue and the rest of the Twin Tiers rabble. I have many fond memories of our gatherings. I haven't been able to locate any other kilties near Madison so there's definitely a little void in my life now.

I definitely prefer the V.S. version as well. That's why I was so happy when Barb told me that she found an ancient version that had been woven by Dalgliesh.
