What makes this version of the Rose tartan so nice is that it actually follows the description in the Vestiarium Scoticum which mentions two different shades of red.
The way it is always woven today by the mills uses the same shade of red throughout. I much prefer the two-red version myself, as it adds a lot more depth and richness to the tartan.
I definitely prefer the V.S. version as well. That's why I was so happy when Barb told me that she found an ancient version that had been woven by Dalgliesh.
