It's not a doublet, and it's not black or red, but here's an Argyll and waistcoat I made last year from corduroy.

It can be done. I'd recommend making your doublet from the black corduroy, and the waistcoat from the red, and then not wearing the two together.

Would it surprise you to learn that this doublet, made for the late Duke of Windsor, is made out of corduroy?

...Silk corduroy. Many of the finest evening coats wear made of this fine, rare, and expensive cloth.

Sandy has beat me to the punch. Silk corduroy is/was regularly used for evening attire, while the less expensive cotton corduroy is regarded as appropriate for day wear.

Just to throw another pic into the ring....

Here is a brown corduroy with black satin facings with mandarin collar.

I think black could be done...the brown is a bit too informal in spite of the satin facings.

Well, you learn something new everyday! Silk corduroy, hmmm...that makes sense!

I was just discussing this with my wife. She thought that she had a bolero jacket in corduroy and I thought that I owned a pair of dark green trousers in corduroy. Well, after some extensive hunting, it seems that we are both wrong. We don't own any corduroy at all.

If nothing else, just because of the rarity value, this could be a very interesting project. Not just the construction, but also the wearing.

    Regards

Wow! Now, that is quite the outfit! I don't think I have ever seen, nor felt silk corduroy before and I am thoroughly intrigued by it. I still would prefer barathea, tartan, or velvet in place of corduroy (silk or not) for evening attire, but that's just me. Along with being intrigued by silk corduroy displayed so finely in the late Duke of Windsor's doublet above, I find myself even more intrigued by the Duke's waist and cross belt...very unique! He had a very slim waist-line, didn't he?

    Thanks for sharing, Sandy.

    Cheers,

Well how about that. I would have never even thought about silk corduroy and worn by the Duke of Windsor, no less.

Makes me feel kind of optomistic about this project.

I am quite fond of the belts as well as the sporran too. The sporran is very similar to one worn by Bonnie Prince Charlie.
