Hello, World!
This past week, I ordered my first kilt ever from Stillwater; a Thrifty that I can wear to beer fests, concerts, and around the house and not worry about getting dirty. I saw a few threads that mentioned someone adding buckles and straps to the Thrifty, and if I can find those threads I'll be doing that soon enough.
A few days later, I ordered my second kilt. A 5-yard Fraser Hunting Ancient from Canadian Custom Kilts. (edit: Canadian Casual Kilts) I've been reading this forum on and off for a year or two, hoping that I would be able to find an affordable kilt for this 'Gentleman of Substance' to wear to my upcoming wedding at the end of December. MacHummel has been fantastic, answering my barrage of emails and phone calls, and looking for a waistcoat that will wrap itself around my girth. I'm giddy with anticipation to see what he creates!
I've been toying with the idea of making my own dress sporran and sgian brew. (Hoping that I can get a kit for the brew from Rab Gordon.)
I wish there were more local resources in Chicago, but I'm eternally grateful for the reviews and recommendations that I've read from this board. I'll be sure to post pictures once I get everything together.

Welcome to XMarks form the Capital District of NYS!
Tell me, who or what is Canadian Custom Kilts? I "googled" them and didn't come up with a company of that name.
I too have an inexpensive acrylic kilt I bought at the local games a few weeks ago. What that did for me was encourage me to get a tailor made one from USA Kilts. Good luck with yours, and yes, please post some pics!
