The Most Scottish Town in the U.S.A.

With so much Scottish influence through the U.S.A. both past and present, I thought it might be interesting to hear about what you our members think would be the best town that exhibited the true feel for our heritage. I have been to towns that have a strong German and Swedish atmosphere but have yet to ever see the greatest of all cultures lived out. Minus the once yearly hosting of a Highland Festival, what town/city do you believe had that 365 day Scottish feel to it? It could be restaurants, shops, etc... that make it feel that way.

Minus the highland games - I dont know which town would have a big impact
as far as who has the most stores that sell Scottish fare or the most landmarks in America

Franklin, NC.

I couldn't go anywhere, not one restaurant or hotel, without seeing pics of pipe bands or something for the Scottish Tartan Museum.

Otherwise, historically speaking, looking at the names of immigrants and the number of them, North Carolina has a lot of Scottish influenced towns. From Cape Fear to the mountains, it's obvious. Some town names, descendants, pipe bands, highland games. I can't say anywhere is 365 "Scots pride day", but the impact is there.

I know Maine claims to have the highest percentage of Scottish names of any State but I can't say you really get a feel for it. Woodstock VT has its share of Scottish stores etc. But I'm going to guess that the the Blue Ridge or Shenandoah will win this one. Maybe Buchanan, Virginia - but then again I'm prejudice!

Well, I live in Midlothian, VA. No problem wearing a kilt here. Come to think of it, I don't have a problem wearing one anywhere.

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Even parts of Nova Scotia. It's one of my favorite places in North America. I have family in Halifax, so have been there a few times in the past. Cape Breton really is a special place with features much like the highlands of Scotland.

Cape Breton needs to be driven to appreciate. We've always gone up over through Port Hastings and head east and north east and follow the coast around the peninsula. We've stopped at the Celtic college - they only speak Gaelic! There's lots of quality Scot merchandise available on the peninsula as well. It's an obvious Scot place!
