Hi, Chad, and welcome to X Marks.
I, too, have a German surname (and Huguenot ancestry, Frank A), but I take my Scottish heritage very seriously.
No Scottish tartans yet (two kilts in African tartans), but I am aiming to get one soon.
Crouse (as it is spelt here) is a common surname in South Africa. It would seem that both Crouse and Krouse are anglicisations of Krause (pronounced Krau-zeh), so perhaps you have relatives in the Afrikaner community you didn’t know about! ;-)
