It does appear to be the Chinese goat hair, I agree Kenneth.

Time to update with oodles more stuff-
A Commissioner specified soft-construction bag with a new cantle shape. This one has a new home in Scotland.

A Braided-edge classic day sporran with matching strap and belt. This one is in the UK as well.

With lots of custom sized storage-

A pair of Wolverine fur pieces for one commissioner-
Hammered Leather Cantle and soft bag

The second is a dress piece with a ClanArt pewter cantle-

Lastly, for now, a dress sporran with a ClanArt "Stag & Hounds" cantle and Fallow/Axis Deer fur-

These cantles are positively gorgeous. The detail is fantastic, and if I say so myself, it's hard to get a better subject/fur combo than this

This one went north of the border.
As always, constructive commentary is welcome.

This one has a home with another fellow X-Marker.
The only solid structure in the bag is in the cantle, which results in a very light, flexible bag, but one with a good amount of storage and which lays much flatter than the Rob Roy style bags.
And a detail shot showing the hand cut pinking and brogueing.
As always, constructive commentary and critique is welcome.

One small update- a rebag of an ex-MoD cantle which had experienced some "issues" in it's past.

The cantle itself was badly bent, to the point where opening beyond ~30* was very difficult. Somewhere in it's past it had lost all of it's press-studs (or at least it had lost some of them and the remainder had been removed to match).
The previous bag had been held on with screws and nuts. The commissioner wanted the bag laced on in the old style, so four extra holes were drilled into both faces to make the lacing more closely follow the arc of the cantle.
The commissioner had a particular look in mind, and I think the result is very close to his "what I want" photo.

The original image is a bit fuzzy on how the tassels are resolved, I made the call and went with a double Turk's Head knot to finish.

A matching strap of the same leather was made. This leather isn't thick enough to do for a kilt belt, but doubled (self lined) it's perfect for a sporran strap.

My next project is in a different leather, I PROMISE
As always, constructive commentary is most welcome.
