    Eppaulette help needed

I need some help finding some woven or braided black eppaulettes for a jacket conversion. I know they can be hand braided, but I've not been able to find any instructions simple enough for me. Any help is appreciated.

Here's the instruction for a more military style
    http://www.ropeworks.biz/reader/prolong.pdf

I'm sure I've seen a pattern here on XMarks for basic braided fabric ones, which are quite simple as well.
Sadly, my search-fu is weak this morning and I'm not finding any results

Find an 8 year old girl (feel free to substitute) and ask her to show you how to braid hair...
Decide if youre doing them from fabric or cord, if fabric sew 3 lengths into tubes, sew the 3 ends together making a tripod shape, then start braiding.

When you're done sew the other 3 ends together to stop it unravelling.

Split the shoulder seam about an inch, push one end in, sew, then braided portion down, resew what you can of the seam.

Other end, make two pieces of square fabric a little bigger than the width of the epaulette and sew together on 3 sides, turn inside out and put over the end of the braid. Sew down...

    Worked for me...

This was my proof of concept

By the way that sort of braid, which is more or less like two ropes conjoined, is called "soutache braid" and can be bought in various thicknesses at most ordinary fabric shops. It's usually used as trim on clothes, and military style doublets use it (in white, silver, or gold) for the button loops.

A bit more complicated but well explained, here's one I bookmarked on this very forum:

    Braided Epaulet [sic] How-to
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

Thanks everyone for all your help. I'm going to give a try at braiding it myself using the instructions that Sydnie posted. Again, thanks.
