Hey Ron,
I don't care what system you are using. My job is to let you access X Marks with the fewest hassles.
Now, can you please tell me in a bit more detail what it is you are seeing. In the "Reply to Thread" text box the icons (the things that allow you to change the text font and size etc) are supposed to be up at the top of the box. They should not be in the lighter colored portion of the box where the text that you type goes.
If you have something covering your typing can you describe it for me please. Does it look like a lot of smiley faces? Is there a yellow guy in a pith helmet? Does it look like some other type of thingys?
Oh, and Happy birthday!

Thanks for the tips - much appreciated. Don't think I'll turn flash back on though...turning it off got rid of the Internet Not Working messages that popped up constantly...weird...typing this the happy faces are off to one side of the reply area...not over...I haven't changed anything....go figure???
Okay...just saw your post Steve. What was happening was the dealie with all the happy/smiley faces would hover over the top right part of this box where we type a reply. When I typed the words took, but they were covered by the bar full of faces so I couldn't check my typing as I typed. I "need" to see what I'm typing..
But now - they're off this area...something changed.
Also, if I edited a reply to correct a typo when I went to the edit mode the words that were typed under the bar of the face thingies would show double on the edit page. Double in the sense that they were written twice in a row....like twice in a row twice in a row...
But it ain't doin' it anymore...hopefully it'll hold. Thanks.

Or is it my X Marks 8th anniversary...sure you recall you told me about this forum when we were over on the English/Irish Utilikilt forum.

Ron, the smilie faces should only be active when you have clicked on the smilie icon at the top of the reply box. The rest of the time they should not show at all.
I'm not sure what is going on but it sounds like you have some sort of cookie on your machine that opens the smilie face pop-up window whenever you hit reply to thread.
There should be an "X" in the upper right corner of the smilie face pop-up box to turn them off. See if you have that and let me know.

Oh, and Ron, I have your birthday listed in your profile as today, 6 Oct. I have the anniversary of you joining X Marks as 2 Oct. Is that correct?

Wow, now the faces don't even come up to turn them off. Just a link on the tool bar...good. Never use the things anyway.
My birthday is on Oct 12. But since that was the old Columbus Day (Invaders Day around here) sometimes it gets put down as whatever Government Columbus Day is. My little sister, who's back on the sauce heavy, often calls me on Government Columbus Day to wish me a happy birthday.....
Kinda irritating anyway since my blood is Viking and the Vikings were here long before Columbus...
You must be tinkering at your end (??) because the face thingies went from in the way to over to one side to a link on the toolbar without me doin' anything here...
