Proposed Appalachain Regional Tartan

Hi all! In my introductory post, someone suggested that an Appalachian Regional Tartan might be something worth while. I heartily agreed. I have an early draft, and was wondering if anyone would like to offer thoughts, suggestions, critiques, etc.

I like it, but then again I like all the earth tone tartans. If the bold yellow was taken back just one notch, I would find it ideal. It isn't often that someone designs a tartan that I like, but this is it!

Is there a significance to the color choices? I agree with Chas I like it.

Is that one sett, or 4? If 4, I would make either the yellow or orange a bit larger, to make it dominant. When repeated, I'm afraid they would fight for the eye. (If that's one full sett, then nevermind)

I love the colour choices. Like an autumn driving over the mountains - and I'm a sucker for orange. Maybe a single thread of white between the reds to set things off? Maybe not, though. But give it a try.

As an Appalachian native, I like it as well. I agree with Chas on taking the yellow back a notch and I might add only the smallest bit of black (for the coal mines, black bear etc.) But opinions are like....well we know the saying.

That image is 4 setts. I had added a bit of black just for that reason, but I was already pushing the thread count at 294. I've also done a color scheme with this sett for hunting as well. I have a photo of a some dogwood leaves in autumn, which were the inspiration for the colors.

I can see what I can do about the yellow, it's gold or DY. Not sure how much wiggle room there is with the weaving mills on specific colors, though. Thanks all!

I can see it as one of a four-season set -- use the same basic pattern with different colorways?

Just a thought -- the bright colors of autumn are highlighted by their contrast with the blue of the sky, the dark green of the pines, and the dark colors of the bark. Might be fun to play with just a few contrasting threads in what you've got.

If it were me, which it's not, I'd narrow the yellow down by about 1/5 and widen the green stripes by2X.

I will be following the progress of the design with interest.
Sometimes it is good to take well-meaning advice, but there are times when you have to paddle your own canoe. It takes careful judgment!
