Opening Day at Renfaire
Last Saturday (10/6) was opening day for the 2012 Texas Rennassance Festival near Plantersville Texas. It was a nice sunny day, and here's a few photos;

First show for the day, Tartanic.

I ran into my friend Andrea early on.

Sampson the Warhorse. This 10 year old Percheron gelding is a faire regular, he was ill last year so it was good to see him. He's 18 Hands high and about 2000 lbs. (a ton of fun!)

My good friends Niki and Brandon. Niki makes all her costumes from scratch.

If you must wear your Starfleet uniform to faire, don't wear the redshirt!

MacShaggin !! The MacShaggins are one of the faire clans that claim me, I have the 'honor' of being the clan 'elder statesman' there.

On the way out I saw lovely Lindsey helping draw some crowds to a friends shop...
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

I used to work with Percherons, and they have a special place in my heart. I saw Sampson in 2010 and was looking for him in 2011. Now I know why I didn't see him! He's a good-looking horse.
As an aside, I had the privilege a few years ago of seeing the world's largest Percheron at the time, Goliath. He was the 2005 Guinness Book of World's Records winner. We had brought 3 Percherons to the show, and at 18 hands they looked small next to him!

The only experience I have with horses are the Chicago Police's Clydesdales. Which is to say, my experience is, "get out of the way." They are beautiful creatures, though.

Niki is very talented. Looks like a fun time at the Faire.

Super pics, looks like lots of fun and plenty of kilts in evidence.

I like the whole eclectic look. All these various elements that reason says shouldn't be together and won't work, but just do. What more fun can you ask for?
