Advice needed: Special Weave Kilt - 15/16 oz worsted wool - 8yds Traditional
Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of having my own, registered tartan to be woven and made a 8 yds traditional kilt of. Should be my christmas present.
The Tartan ist: http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...aspx?ref=10606
Can the rabble give me some advice, which kiltmaker could do this... at a reasonable price... (mustn't be cheap, but worth the price )
...offers of kilt-makers from the forum are welcome ( via PN)
Kind regards

I have no direct experience, but one source I've seen is: http://www.newhousehighland.com/heirloom_about.html

Any of the kiltmakers here can have this woven and made for you. However, your goal of having it by Christmas might be a bit too optimistic. That's only two months away!

Honestly this forum abounds with amazing kilt makers; two that DO order custom weaves and 8yd kilts are Barb T, and paulhenry. I'm sure there are others as well.

I can vouch for the EXCELLENT work of Paul Henry, who was recommended by Artificer in the post above. He made my last tank, the whole "experience" was wonderful and the kilt couldn't be better. As you are in Germany, he's closer than almost all of the other kiltmakers that are members of this forum and could do this for you. You won't go wrong if you go by Paul. Excellent work, excellent communication, in fact excellent everything!

Any kiltmaker who does business with DC Dalgliesh can get this custom weave done for you. Paul Henry does have an excellent reputation here, although it's also worth mentioning Lady Chrystel who lives in France. http://www.lady-chrystel-kilts.com/

I also have a kilt made by Lady Chrystel, and she wouldn't be amongst those that I recommended anyone to use for a project like this. I'll not go into the reasons here on this open forum, but I wasn't "over the moon" with the kilt that she made for me, as I was with the kilt that Paul Henry worked his magic on. The kilt Paul made for me has rapidly become my favourite kilt.

Bonnie Heather Greene also gets my unqualified recommendation and does custom tartan work.

Hi folks,
thanks for your advices so far . I'm in touch with the first kiltmaker to make an offer.
Just to clarify: Even if the kilt will be my christmas present (for myself) , it is not necessary to have it on Dez 24th. Even Feb/Mar 2013 would be fine.

That's generally true, but I'm more than happy to help source that sort of thing out. If the OP is still interested, please email me and I can help.
