And now, its freezing up when I go to post on other threads. Silly me, confident that all is well, didn't copy the incredible post and lost it to the freeze up.

How do you post about a tech problem when the tech problem is the posting dealie freezing up?

Still happenin' Latest method to get through seems to be hiting the gray reply button rather than the blue one then the post quick reply button instead of go advanced - which was the one that worked before. Point is what works is changing...makes no sense and it remains a frustration ONLY found on this forum. Other forums using this format work great. Go figure.

And, another clue. When I type out a post and copy it in case it freezes up. And it does freeze up. If there is a photo link in the copied copy when I paste it in a new attempt to post the entire copied post is gone. Doesn't seem to happen without the photo link in it.

No clue what that means other than posting remains a crap shoot for me.

    River,

Let me be a bit more blunt than the previous posts, my apologizes as this sounds rude, but is not intended as such.

The problem is your computer or your internet connection, NOT Xmarks. There is nothing any of us can do to help.

There is a program somewhere on your computer that is NOT working with this site the way it is or your internet provider is having problems. You will need to get in touch with either: a local computer tech support, your computer manufacturer, Microsoft, or your internet provider.

I know it is disappointing to not have something working the way it should. But, the truth of computer programing is there are better things to use than what we buy more often than not. It's just like a "standard" kilt outfit set; the sporran is going to be mass produced and lower quality, but still nice. It's what you bought and that sporran will do you fine in most cases. Does that mean you should wear that exact outfit to a white-tie formal with the queen? No, you would replace the nice, but not great sporran with one that is a great piece. IE in any version is the mass produced sporran. Firefox or Google Chrome are the Full-Faced fur or one of Artificer's formals.

Firefox is free, you just download it and install it. It will even import your bookmarks from IE to Firefox FOR YOU. Try it, and see if it works. If it doesn't, talk to your Internet Service Provider.

Edit: Apologies to Steve and KiltedCodeWarrior as well, for overstepping my bounds a bit, if I did so.

Well, if I'm lucky enough to post this, thanks for all the techie efforts. Its hard for me to accept that somehow its my computer since it was a sudden onset when I'd made no changes to my system, it does not happen on about a half a dozen other forums I'm a member of that use this same format, and there seem to be a few others this is also happening to.

So I'll muddle along. I do wish I had a dollar for every time since I began with the Internet that the techies told me it was my rig's problem, my local server's problem, or that I "needed" to change browsers...yet, I don't do anything and it eventually cleans up when the site updates, patches, or whatever.

No hard feelings and no interest in causing any. Gotta learn to stop being the messenger with these glitches and hang back and let someone else take the lead.

    Hi Ron,

Don't stop posting about problems. Input like this is invaluable and is how we keep the site running. If we don't know about a problem, we can't fix it.

In regards to the problem you reported in post no. 23 to this thread. The process of copying and pasting something is totally within your computer. It does not matter if your are even connected to the internet or X Marks the way your computer copies and handles that data is internal to your machine.

If I am understanding your post ------

If you wish to add a post to an existing thread -
You click the blue "Repy to Thread" button at the top or bottom of a page. -
This opens a quick reply window. -
You type something into the window. -
You then click the grey "Post quick Reply" button in the lower right corner of the typing window. -

    And your machine freezes.

So you began saving what you type before you hit the gray "Post Quick Reply" button.

If the typing you did contains a photo link it causes the entire post to disappear. Is that right?

The first part of this is exactly what I do when I want to post to a thread.

The second part - about saving what you typed before you hit the button - That is on your machine. It has nothing to do with the forum or anything about anything on the internet. I'm sorry but I can't help you with the second part.

You definitely have something going on here. I can't find anything on this end. It also seems the problem is isolated to just one or two members. The reason we suspect so strongly that it is something on your machine is because we cannot duplicate the problem anywhere else.

I'm still working on this, and I'll still try to help you. If you know how to clear all your cookies, history and can reload your software that may help. And it may not.

Don't give up. I thank you for your patience as we work through this.

No problem, taking a seat in a pew in the Church of Patience....

What I'm saying about the last bit it that with this glitch I copy what I've typed to make it more convenient to try to post again if it doesn't take. When there is no link to a photobucket picture I can repaste what I've typed the next time I try.

Just noticed if there is a photobucket IMG link in the post I can still copy the message I typed, but when I have to try again and repost on the second effort there is nothing to paste since what was on the clipboard seems to vanish after the site freezes up and I have to hit the recover website pop up. No IMG the clipboard will paste. With the IMG link on the clipboard it vanishes.

Irony now is that sometimes it works fine, other times it freezes, some combinations of button choices work one time but not another.

You're right, I don't know about all the clear cookies, history and reloading software seems a bit extreme.

Still don't know why it works fine on other forums using this format but not on X Marks.

I post too much anyway. Maybe give it a rest for a while and see what happens. IF it is my rig no clue how to fix it or what suddenly made it start acting up.

Appreciate the efforts on your end.

You might want to try Mozilla Firefox as your default browser Ron, it is free to download. I can usually access this site with Firefox even though the scripts sometimes run rather slow. I gave up using IE7 because it was so slow that sites such as xmarks and facebook just wouldn't run at all.
I had a problem on Firefox with my internet banking log in when the bank renewed their software but the bank's computer techie guy talked me through how to eliminate all my caches (cookies, history etc) on Mozilla and start with it afresh. He also advised me to stick with Mozilla as my default browser and warned me against the option of upgrading from IE7 to IE9 which he assured me is even worse.

    Thanks for the tip Alex

Been running fine yesterday afternoon and so far today with no changes to my rig.

Call me hardheaded but from observation whatever the intermittent glitch is I don't think its my rig's stuff. Think if it was it would be constant and would also be happening on all the other forums that use this format...and nary a glitch on them.

Sometimes good things happen when you just wait it all out.

Silly attempt to update....like this might actually post...

This morning, first post was totally normal...no problems...a burst of optimism..."its fixed!"

Next post, freeze up no matter which buttons are clicked....copying the post in case it doesn't post so I can just paste it on the next try flat doesn't work. The clip board empties when I hit the recover the website option.

All I've been able to determine so far is its a random crap shoot to post.
