Did you insert the picture before you typed any text, or did you type the "steam powered" computer line first, followed by at least two Enters, and then uploaded the image?

If one inserts the picture first, there is no "problem". It's only when I type any text followed by blank lines (ie at least two Enters) and then try to upload the image at that location that I encounter the "problem".

Nice kilt, by the way. I'm glad you chose that picture as a test subject.

    Mookien,

    Try this.

Create a post and don't type anything. Insert and image. Then "Go Advanced" and click "Attachments" to have your pic show in the typing window.

You can now enter text anywhere you wish. You can put text before the pic, after it, or even cut and paste it anywhere on the page.

You can move the pic around with the enter (carriage return) key or by cut and paste.

Just pay attention where the flashing thingy is. Any action you do will take place where ever the flashy thing is.

For example, (and I think this addresses your 'problem') if you have an image but no text yet, you can put the flashy thing right before the image. It will actually appear in the upper left corner of the image itself. If it is there and you hit enter he pic will move down on line leaving a space above. Move the flashy thing to the open line and type.

The same is true if you put the flashy thing right after the pic. Now it looks like it is in the lower right corner of the pic. Hit enter and it will move down and you can type below the pic.

If this does not make sense try this. Start a post but don't put in a pic. Type a line of text. Then put the flashy thing somewhere in the middle of your line of text. Hit enter and the line of text is cut and the section after the flashy thing is dropped one line down. The same basic principal is used with images.

I typed the "steam powered" line followed by two enters, inserted the photo, two more enters and then typed the last line.

Thanks for the compliment about my favourite kilt, but it really is Paul Henry that should be complimented. Amazing work he did on that.

I'm doing the same thing now. Now, for two Enters and picture insert. Absolutely nothing is shown in my "Quick Reply" text window, except the two lines I typed. This time, even though the picture is not shown in the "Quick Reply" window, I submitted the post just to see what it would look like. The picture is there, but not in the right place. It follows the two lines of text. Er, make that that four lines of text. The picture seems logically stuck at the bottom of the post, ie I cannot type text below it.

This is getting more weird all the time. My previous independent text entries are collapsed into a single paragraph. Strange!? Something is amiss with either my system or setup, or the software that provides the picture insert functionality.

Thanks for your help. Now, I'll try Steve's latest suggestion ...

    Steve,

I can't do that. After I insert the image, there is no "Go Advanced", just "Preview Post". If I click on that, I get the error message ...

"The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 5 characters."

    Now what?

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I can get around the problem using a number of techniques, like inserting the picture first instead of the text, or using the "Attachment" button.

But, the problem of entering text, a blank line, and then a picture still exists, on my system anyway. If I'm the only one having/complaining about this problem, then it may not be worth pursuing. If other folks are going to stumble over this, however, it might justify further "debugging".

Aha, If you see only the two "Submit Reply" and "Preview Post" buttons in the lower right corner then you are already in "Advanced".

You may now post text or photos.

Yes, if you only post one photo or less than 5 characters of text you will get the error message. Add six random letters and see if this happens again.

Steve: Your statement from post #82 offers yet another way to circumvent the "problem". That is, ...

"You can ... cut and paste it anywhere on the page."

    That was most helpful.

Now, I have three ways to put text before an image. So, I'm happy. But, if we get a complaint from someone that they wrote a line of text, but then had trouble inserting a local image, we must remember to tell them about the "Go Advanced" and "Attachments" buttons. And, again, I think that ought to be included in the instructions on how to insert locally stored pictures.

Thanks again for all your help. And, hopefully this will be the last time I write that in this thread, ... and I know you share that hope.

    Not at all Mookien,

This is my job. You are a member of this forum who came to me with a problem.

As long as your issue is resolved and you can accomplish what you are trying do I have done my job. Not well perhaps but I'm not a computer guy. I just wear kilts.

Yes, "well". You pointed me in the right direction every time. I appreciate that.
