I had a friend years ago who sometimes would wear his Prince Charlie over jeans and ordinary shirt to "go clubbing". It was an interesting look.

I have carried a man purse or shoulder bag for over 30 years. I started shortly after getting married. DSWMBO&A and I would go to the mall (remember this is 30 years ago) after 30 minutes I would have hit every store I was interested in (twice) but I knew she still had over an hour of shopping left. So I would carry a book and a cassette tape deck. I would read, listen to the tape and she would walk by and drop packages. I found a small shoulder bag more convenient than a back pack. As electronic have gotten smaller I now carry a small bag similar to the Nightstalker. I use this for both a sporran and a day bag.

The sporran was a utility pouch worn because kilts had no pockets. However, if you check back into history most of the attire worn had no pockets and men and women wore some type of pouch. A sporran is just a pouch worn with a kilt, some are fancy some are plain, but, it is still just the universal pouch worn through out the world with a Scottish name.

Just because it has a name in Scottish does not mean it can only be worn with a kilt. Get over it!

I like Fridays and Mookiens descriptions and word better. But still won't use the terms Murse or Mug, it just sounds like a butched up ladies bag or masculinized feminine skirt.- Something converted and not purpose built for guys.
Satchel dosent seem to carry any gender affiliations and is quite generic.

Would not even correct someone who used it to describe my sporran or (sorry) fannypack or hand held tote bag.

LOL LitTrog You are right, was beating around the bush. Whatever it is or where ever you wear it, if it fills the purpose you need it for and you like it, use it. The fashion police can take the long walk off the short pier. And then go get a real job.
