    I agree, gorgeous work. Just wondering if the type/weight of leather that paulhenry works with accounts for the difference in techniques described here. My experience with traditional leather-bound books is of a very thin material that can be wrapped around the end boards. Haven't been to his site lately to see what he's working with, tho.

    The heated tool method is fascinating BTW

    Due to being at work, I can't see the photos thanks to our server, but will have a look when I get home.

    It gets confusing when you use a 'stamp' to 'tool' the leather, but tooling is actually what I meant. I've pretty much mastered the 'casing' again (haven't done much leatherwork for far too long), and my tooling is improving again.

    I'm actually making a dress leather sporran with dandelion decoration in place of the usual targe design and dandelion leaves as the 'tassels', so these will be dyed the appropriate colour once tooled.

    And of course, the obligatory photos will follow - I know the rules.

    Thanks for the explanation Tobus, it really makes more sense now.
