Yup, his shoes are +40yrs old. Do we have a documented story on the sporran? I thought that I'd read somewhere that it was his uncle's.

I've read that too, Scott and judging by the photo below, I'd say it's a rather accurate assumption.

Hmm, those sporrans in the photo have metal cantles and don't look at all like the one he typically wears.

That's an awesome sporran. I would have guessed that it would have belonged to his grandfather, George VI. I thought I'd read that his George VI tartan kilt belonged to his grandfather.

Tobus, one of these would most likely be the dressier one HRH wears.

Somewhere I've seen older pictures of the soft bag (all leather), but I can't seem to locate them at the moment.

Damn that man can wear a kilt! Never thought of him as much of a looker or fashionista, but when it comes to highland wear, he really rocks it! And for a man who could have any accessories he wanted it is very cool that he is wearing an old ancestral sporran. But then again HRH has always been pro Green.

By wearing old ancestral -----and perfectly serviceable sporrans-------- is, after all, perfectly in line with the Scots traditional thinking. Wouldn't you say?

I had this conversation at Kinloch Anderson Kiltmakers and Highland dress in Edinburgh, and they said all the leather should match, shoes, sporran, sporran belt, kilt belt, kilt straps, the lot. That what I did with my outfit and I think it looks great, altho having said that, the back of my dress sporran is black, but you can hardly see it, and I might unpick and replace it one of these days

Bobby, I find that a very strange attitude comming from Kinloch Anderson as one of their most prestigious customers, HRH Prince Charles always wear black shoes, no matter what colour sporran, belts, kilt straps that he has on when wearing highland attire

I think most traditional kilt makers of the past would have said the same and obviously at least one continues to say that the leathers should all match and I think many kilt-wearers, certainly those of my generation in Scotland will be aware of this advice. However, as we all know there is a big difference between theory and practice.
