I don't even think a ranking system would be needed as it could EASILY lead to squabbles why person X's favorite company has a 3 star rating where this Person Y's favorite company has a 5 star rating... Also, with vendors, I don't know if all of the vendors would want to be 'open' to ranking like that as occasionally, there's a SNAFU with different vendors (which is usually cleared up right quick, but could affect their 'rating').
I personally believe that a list of threads dealing with each company noted in the 'companies to watch out for' sticky would be fine. As another new thread pops up about a company that's already on the list, the mod who made the post to the thread can edit it and add a link to the additional thread. It helps to "organize" the thread info for a newbie.
