I'd go with one of the red ones.

I had a jacket very much like yours and wore a solid red waistcoat with it (much like the second one in your post) and that would look especially great with your tartan, I would think. It can look a bit "Christmassy" but just the thing for this time of year. If you want to "tone it down" you could wear matching green or black one.

I like the idea of a red waistcoat with that outfit, but....

The jacket and the kilt are both wool. The waistcoats you have pictured all appear to be made out of a fabric that has some kind of sheen to it. Might I suggest that a red waistcoat made from a worsted wool cloth would coordinate much better with the texture of the jacket and kilt.

I guess that would depend on where you intend to wear it. If you're looking for formal day wear, any of the five-button waistcoats above would do (though my preference is for plain wool waistcoats rather than shiny silk/polyester). If you're looking for something to wear as evening wear (with a bow tie), I would recommend a three-button waistcoat.

Because it can be very difficult to match colours, something like these red waistcoats, maybe with a change to silver buttons, would probably be a good bet.

I think you should get them all. They look great. Can't go wrong with any of 'em.

I like the two on the right, but I admit to a fascination with Victorian and Edwardian style.

I like the solid red despite the Christmas theme-like color scheme---I think it will work year round anyway. Unlike Matt I do not dislike the satin finish to the waistcoat for a dressy outfit like this looks like it would likely be used for, although I do agree that a non-sheen wool waistcoat might look more subdued and traditional, just a bit less dressy to my eye.

One thought, however, was that you should definitely try on your chosen outfit well in advance of when you think you will need to wear it, as I believe from the look of them that the waistcoats you show are all standard length for, say, tuxedo wear, and with the long points at the front bottom they may show unattractively below your kilt cut jacket. You may need to have some tailoring done to the waistcoat you choose to get the shape to match that of the bottom of your argyll jacket.

I really like the jacket, very snappy. I have tried a couple times to find one that color in my size at a reasonable price and just missed a clearence jacket twice.

Scotweb has tartan waistcoats from a little over $100 and up for square cut and about $175 and up for luxury bias cut, depending on your tartan. One of the few exceptions to the general "rule" against wearing matching tartan above the waist with the kilt.
