Gee, a scalpel is a great idea.

Back is getting better, thanks. Was getting bad sciatica in my lower right leg within the past week, like electric shock stuff, no fun at all. Just twinging now, so getting better. Not a spring chicken anymore, need to take it easy!

Well done on the buckle tab, oldhippie! That's a pretty neat idea.

I'll provide a hearty second for this leather vendor. Been dealing with Sean and Kathy 5 years now and nothing but good to say of them

I have had good luck skiving belts with a very sharp wood plane. Problem with the narrower skivers is it's hard to get a uniform thickness and I've ruined more than one belt when teh skiver slipped at the edge.

I might have to give that a try, although I found with a careful and cautious approach, the skiver works well. I just bought a low angle plane to carefully scarf in new tops on ribs on my 1947 Old Town canoe.
