I've Never Seen Anything Like This! DANCING Pleats

I'm used to pleats "swishing"....but my new kilt seems to DANCE when I walk.

Unless something changed its made from Marton Mills 16 ounce Jura and hand sewn by Kathy Lare.

No clue if its the material, or the craftsmanship, or the synergy of them both but when I walk the pleats seems to dance with every step...

Sorry, no video camera.... seems more lively than all my other hand sewns.

Go figure...but I'm sure liking it. One more reason kilting is fun.

Already up on the For my Fellow Marines thread and the Sweet Agony thread...but best so far - and I wasn't even walking...is this.

Its the Dress Blue USMC tartan that Steve created

And yes I know its not official. It sure is a wonderful variation of the Leatherneck tartan though and soooo beautiful....but a beautiful tartan that also dances!

    Ron,
It seemed to me that the MM fabric did have a lot of "action" to it. Since my kilt is a box pleat it doesn't have quite the same swish, but it is the same fabric. Perhaps the kilt makers on the board will comment if this is common with MM 16oz wool.

I've found it to have a very stiff "hand" which could contribute to it being a little "springy" as you walk. Same goes for HOE's Nevis range of cloth.

It does have a stiffer "hand" for sure...it also seems thinner than what I'd expect for 16 ounce...just me. Will try for some pics tomorrow.

I am very partial to the Marton Mills fabrics.

I too find them to be woven with a bit 'denser' hand. I guess I would characterize the feel as 'more substantial'.

The Selvedges, while a tuck selvedge, are always straight and tight.

The fabric also takes a hard, sharp crease with little effort and holds it a long time.

I don't know if it is the weave or what, but I too find the Marton Mills fabrics do have a marvelous swish factor.

And the cost, vs some other weavers, makes Marton Mills my 'go-to' fabrics.

Almost all my special weave orders go to Marton Mills especially if I want colors in their muted range.

I should have mentioned the sharp creases, I did notice that. I like the fabric. And I love the tartan. And the fit is great. Definately one of my go to kilts for more "dressy" occasions.

Me too on the creases - like a single layer of cloth almost.

Everything Steve says above applies to the kilt I now own.

A joy to walk in. Guess I should go over to the supermarket and walk the liquor aisle where they have the CCTV screen where you can see yourself...watch them pleats dance.
