As so often happens, I was searching the internet for one thing (in this case a new alarm clock that won't wake my wife up when it goes off) but managed to get off on a tangent. I started seeing some pretty cool stuff that, of course, I thought would be pretty handy when kilted. What appeals to me about them is that they look mostly traditional or normal, but have enhanced functionality. There's no reason we can't wear clothing that carries the style from past centuries while still enjoying modern gadgetry, right?
Here's what I found. Post anything cool you know of that would work well when kilted but gives you MacGyver or James Bond ability.
First, titanium multi-tool collar stays. They do the job of plain old metal collar stays, but also have the ability to act as screwdrivers, thread cutters, and bottle openers!
Then there's the USB flash drive/wifi hotspot cufflinks. One cufflink has a detachable 2GB USB flash drive, and the other has a USB wifi hotspot device. As I understand it, you just plug it into a computer that's already internet connected, and it creates a hotspot for your tablet or other devices. Pretty cool!
Here's a carbon fiber money clip that can be purchased with the option of an RF blocker to protect your credit cards or other items that have RFID chips.
There are several companies that make a similar thing, but you can find sunglasses equipped with an MP3 player and Bluetooth capability. I think we're actually on the verge of a technology explosion with sunglasses. In the next year or two, we will start seeing sunglasses that have all the functionality of a smart phone, using a heads-up display. There are also several models of sunglasses already out there which have cameras and video camera capability. That might actually be pretty darn handy for Highland Games and such, instead of having to tote around an actual camera.
What else have you got?
