Kilt Vendors at NYC
A friend of mine is going to visit New York City for Christmas, and he wants to buy his first Kilt, he wants to see various options so he asked me if there is a store that I might know, I searched on the internet and I found these vendors
www.highlandkiltshop.com
http://www.piperscove.com/
http://www.okaneoutfitters.com/
Do you have any experience with any of them?
Do you have any other option?
Cheers

Missy O'Kane from O'Kane outfitters makes your kilt for you, Joan from Pipers Cove will have it made in Scotland, and shipped here.
Both are god choices, I think Missy is the better choice, personally.
if you are just looking for a nicely made kilt, you can contact Bonnie Heather Greene, she is a member here on Xmarks, and hand sews Kilts.. She is great, and she is in the NYC area.
Also, all of the above options do not have Tartan Kilts off the shelf. They all do custom orders..
Pipers Cove, and Okane Outfitters both rent kilts, but thats the only off the shelf Tartan Kilts they have.
If I remember correctly, Pipers Cove did carry a couple canvas Kilts...but not sure if they do anymore.
one more thing.. Pipers Cove is probably the closest too NYC, but none are with in walking distance... he would either have to drive, or take a cab to both.

To second what KWD states. Bonnie Heather Greene is also an excellent choice. My second kilt was made by Bonnie, as noted above, my first was through Pipers Cove. I am so very pleased with Bonnie's work and I posted in her forum here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-greene-73541/. You will not be disappointed if you go with Bonnie. Joan at Pipers Cove was also very easy to work with and that kilt is also a great piece. I should have mentioned that when I first posted. Sorry Bonnie.

You can take a bus from Port Authority in NYC to Kearny NJ and I seem to remember the path train ran near it to. Then a short walk to Pipers Cove. You can also take the dollar vans from Port Authority. By bus it’s about a half hour. While you are there have something to eat in their restaurant.
