    Loops for pipe(s) on sporran

    Hello rabble...

As a newbie to the kilted lifestyle who enjoys pipes...I keep thinking a day wear sporran with loops sewn on one or both sides in which to carry a straight billiard would be a handy thing. Has anyone ever seen such a thing?

No I haven't and in all honesty, I think the sporran would look rather cluttered with even more "things" attached to it, but there is no real reason why you should not do it. I used to smoke a pipe for many many years and used to stick it in my hose-top when it was not in use. Pipes carried thus were not an unusual sight in those days and would not even raise an eyebrow from others. I suppose it would these days?

As Jock mentioned, sticking it in your hose is a fine option requiring no investment of time, money, or material. Another option I once saw at the games is a dedicated pipe holder for the kilt belt. It looks sort of like a dirk frog, but is designed to hold the pipe. It actually didn't look too bad, but then again, the wearer looked like the kind of guy who should be wearing a pipe holder on his belt, if you get my meaning.

a question Jock. When wearing the pipe in your hose, did it replace the sgian dubh, was it next to the sgian dubh or was it in the other hose opposite?

No the pipe did not replace the sgian dubh, although I do not always carry one and I tend to favour that item to no particular leg anyway, but being left handed the pipe seemed to end up on the left leg, regardless to the sgian being there, or not.
