Christmas Day hand-feeding the chickadees & more

Some of the photos I took walking in and from 'Point Pleasant Park' in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Christmas day. I had been busy right up until Dec 24 so getting out to some woods was such a great thing.

The chickadee birds there may land on your hand if you have seed (in this case pumpkin seeds). I was standing there for over an hour doing this and a bunch of them kept landing and taking a seed or two. Sometimes, it was like a steady drive-through bird restaurant.

This group of people started to come down this path and stopped and I could hear them talking about the birds landing ... so I asked if they wanted to try it. They didn't know this could be done at the park so it was fun introducing some people to this. I should have gotten someone to take my photo with my camera but I wasn't thinking . I do have some 'mysterious kilted shadow guy in some pics' though (it's actually kind of fun to get your own shadow in photos as part of them)

Never a problem coaxing out the chickadees in that park. I got surprised one day what a red breasted nuthatch showed up on my hand

    Great photos!

We have chickadees in our yard year-round. I always enjoy watching them, but I've never tried feeding them from my hand.

I had a nuthatch land years ago and got a photo of that ... but this day it was all chickadees. This blue jay showed up and I wished he would land but that's probably not going to happen.
