Spencer / Eton jacket into formal kilt jacket.

Here is an idea that I am working on. Tell me what you think. I would be curving the bottom, making the cuffs, and braiding the shoulder cords.

I want to turn this:



Into this:

Is the fabric heavy enough to make a good conversion?

Wouldnt a mess dress or evening attire usually have an open front?

It will be open front. That was the only picture I had to play with.

Paired with a tartan waistcoat or perhaps one in coloured scarlet, I think this style of jacket would look quite smart with Highland evening attire, Harold. I look forward to possibly seeing the steps of such an endeavour.

It works fine. I did almost the same to the exact type of Eaton jacket last year. I used velvet black for the cuffs. It worked out great.

I had not thought of velvet! I have some at home so that may be a good option to look into. I do what to reshape the bottom hem so that it curves upward at the side seams.
