Simply do not post and it drifts away.

The moderators many times get criticized for over moderation.

A thread will only be closed for a reported serious Rule violation.

My suggestion if you don't like a thread, avoid it. If your feelings get hurt get over it. There are no kilt police.

Or people could remember that it is OK to disagree...

Anybody with a kilt, or even someone with just an interest in kilts, is welcome here. Period.

This is an international forum with a great variety of approaches to the kilt; there are going to be differences of opinions. We need to be strong enough, polite enough, and tolerant enough to discuss them without making it personal or taking it personally. How else are we going to foster mutual understanding?

    - If someone is asked for their opinion and they are willing to share it, one doesn't jump down their throat because one doesn't agree.
    - If someone has an opinion that makes one feel bad, one should remember that no-one can make one feel a certain way and take ownership of their own feelings.
    - If someone is offended by one's opinion, one shouldn't be guilted into silence.

Would like to hear more about Jock's shooting, but know this isn't the right forum.

as usual, late to the party!
searching around for music this evening, I found a YouTube video of The Cornner Pub in Ardara, Donegal where the music being played was that old Irish favorite "Turkey in the Straw" and another of a ceilidh in Edinbane, Skye where they were playing the old Skye traditional "Theme from the Last of the Mohicans". It's an increasingly small world.

Just FYI, that one was originally composed by Scottish musician Dougie MacLean and titled "The Gael". It was then -- later -- used in the movie.

I'm delighted to learn that Dale. I like MacLean's Caledonia so much.

Wow. I cant believe that I just read this thread from start to finish. I have to say it was a bit like "War and Peace," long as hell with multiple plot lines.

Im visiting Scotland for the first time in Feb. After reading everything herein Im still very excited to visit but I think Im going to put off the purchase of my first kilt for a while. Im Canadian with some Scottish ancestry and Ive served in a Highland Regiment but I think I get what the Scots of this site have been saying.

After living in Paris for a while I completely understand a local's attitude towards tourists. Legit French people dont wear berets. Its only North American toursits. I dont want to be that guy in Scotland.

With the one exception... that if my understanding is even close to correct, the tartan of a former regiment is yours to wear whenever and forever and ever. Amen.

I REALLY tried to stay off this thread, but seeing as it's the last day of 2012 (that's my excuse!) then I'll throw in my 2€ worth. Since when does a kilt wearer bother about what others will think about his attire? In my opinion if that was the case we would NEVER wear the kilt anywhere! I wear my kilt, basically, for me (and my ancestors) and I don't really worry about what other people think about it. Of course, it's always nice to get complements. I'll wear mine whenever I WANT to, unless it's specifically forbidden in some sort of written "dress code".

Interesting how we all think and thank goodness we don't all think the same! For me though, if I were not a Highland Scot, I doubt that I would ever consider wearing the kilt. I would be extremely jealous though, on the occasion that I did think about it!
