Lest I seem obsequious, I like your signature's character about as much as you like cartoon Scotsmen.

Nice to see you back!I hope things are going well for you?
You know, it matters not who the words are uttered by, be they actors, cartoon characters, politicians, poets, generals, authors, tyrants, or whoever and we don't even have to like them as such. Sometimes though, just a few words in a one line and often an off the cuff comment, crystallise a pertinent thought into a memorable phrase. Here is another phrase that many might like to ponder on:
"Let us not take ourselves too seriously."
Queen Elizabeth II.

don't shoot the messenger?
oh I'm well enough Jock-the pup sees to that! It's kind of you to ask.
As to the message as opposed to the messenger you make a good point. But i have a hard time taking John Wayne seriously! Myself now, that's another kettle of fish...
I find that no is not a particularly effective way to train the dog, more like a last resort when the wee bastard has taken it into his head to have a bit of fun with the pleats, socks or whatever else catches his fancy in the moment. Rather better to be shown a way to go forward, like the neighbour's wash on the line or something.
I like your posts as they lend a perspective and a context which allows people to make choices. It's one thing to know say the context in which a word is used and deliberately choose to take it out of context, another thing entirely to not know that it had a context.
Best wishes for the new year-
