    Ghillie Hat

I plan on getting a 'real' kilt very soon. I want the opinion of the rabble on something.

What do you chaps think of ghillie hats worn with the kilt? I imagine that they were in vogue during the Victorian period (#Ghillies/hunting/outdoorsmen/et al) but could it be pulled off today?

    Thanks for the input.

Yes a ghillie / deerstalker / fore and aft would be just fine with tweed day wear both kilted and tr@usered on this side of the pond.

I rather like the look, myself. I'll wait to "pull it off" when I am older, though.

I'd not heard of that style of hat before. Searching Google for "ghillie hat" made me think you were looking for one of these:

I figured it out eventually, though.

Hahaha! That's funny, Llama. BTW, congratulations on your recent wedding. I wish you a lifetime of joy.

Does anyone have any kilted ghillie hat photos? I want to get more of an idea of the overall effect before I jump right in.

Here you go. The hat in the picture is known locally as a "fore and aft" and the ones with the ear flaps are known as "deer stalkers". BEWARE, these styles are called by other names by other tailors and merchants so care needs to be taken when ordering. These bonnets are a first rate choice for informal kilt attire and are worn without a second thought here.

    Seriously, Jock! Looking good, sir!

    Thank you for your advice.

I am leaning toward a hat very similar to yours.

The other day I pulled the trigger on one of these:

    http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/all-wool-ghillie-hat/

These things look SHARP! I hope that it arrives soon. I am experiencing the 'jones.' If it's this bad for a hat then what shall I do when it is a kilt jones?! LOL!!
