Vegan Ghille Brogues

Yes. I have a pair and I like them. They are essentially Crocs fashioned as ghillies, eg with long laces to tie around your calf. Thus, they are lightweight, comfortable, and easy to clean - hose them off. Because they are polymer, they are dull and not shiny. Thus, you may not regard them as suitable for a formal event. They are great for outdoor wear, eg walking around the games, or informal indoor use, eg the pub.

Because they are lightweight, they do not offer the support provided by leather ghillies. If you need the support of a leather shoe, especially with heavy soles, the ghillators may not work for you.

Finally, the fellow who started the Crocs company was a Florida Gator, thus the name ghillators. Being a Florida State Seminole I prefer to call them "ghillie Crocs".

Thanks. What is the sizing like? I normally wear a 12 but it doesn't seem that they are offered in standard sizes. Should I go 12 1/2 or 11 1/2?

When I ordered my pair, that was my biggest concern. I usually wear a size 10 or 11 depending on the shoe last, so I ordered 10 1/2 and kept my fingers crossed. Luckily, they fit well. Sport Kilt is very good about returns, so if they don't fit, I'm guessing you can simply exchange them. But, it wouldn't hurt to verify that with Sport Kilt before you buy. Ask for Seamus. He was very helpful.

The Sport Kilt web site states, "Available in men's one-half sizes from 9-12. When in doubt, go bigger!"

So, if I were you, I would order the 12 1/2. I don't think polymer stretches easily, if at all, and if you wear thick hose, the 11 1/2 might very well be too small. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them.

I wear US 12, got 12 1/2 and it fits fine since kilt hose tends to run thick. Very light and comfy in all but hot weather. A pair of moisture wicking sock liners fixes that fairly well. And yes, have a care when lacing up.

Actually, it is my understanding that when you retire your ghillie Crocs, if you remove the laces, sprinkle a little betel nut powder on them, and boil them for a couple of hours, they taste a bit like coconut husks.

I don't plan to try that, however, ... not at my age anyway. And, I wouldn't recommend it for any young, naive folks who might be reading this post, ... if you get my drift.
