In 2004, Another set of Irish County tartans (known as the "County Crest" tartans) were designed and registered by Gaelic Themes and are woven by Marton Mills. The colors chosen for each tartan was based on the design of the crest from each county.
Yes I was dismayed when House of Edgar's line of "Irish county tartans" was introduced. They were lovely tartans, well-designed, using very nice colours... but they ignored the colours associated with each county. (Which is important, because GAA is very strong in Ireland and each county's teams wear the county colours.)
So it was fitting and nice that a range of county tartans came out that acknowleged the known county colours.
