Many, many thanks to all of you. Actually, I have only just logged on and it's already after 11.00pm here, so I'm not going through all the postings throughout the Forum until tomorrow.
Just want to say "Thank you" for your messages, although I've really reached an age when birthdays should be ignored. It's a frightening thought that 70 is just around the corner, waiting to pounce!
Today, I was treated by a couple of friends to a lavish pub lunch in Brighton (a city which I've not visited for several months). Unknown to me, the management had been told of the occasion and, halfway through our meal a recorded fanfare was played followed by a loudspeaker announcement that "Today is the birthday of HAMISH". Recorded cheering and applause was played with which, as far as I could tell, the entire clientelle of the packed pub joined in. Everyone then sang 'Happy Birthday', a small birthday cake was brought to the table and a hidden bubble machine went into overdrive somewhere near our table! Someone realised that I was wearing my new Camouflage kilt and so I was forced (yes, forced! Can you believe it? ) to get up and give everyone a twirl, to more applause! I mean, how embarrassing is that?! I had not been to this pub before but, apparently, it is known for doing that sort of thing, when forewarned.
Before we'd finished our meal, I had three different people come to the table to tell me that they'd seen the article on me in The Argus newspaper a couple of weeks ago.
After lunch, we went for a stroll along the seafront promenade during which yet another lady came up to me and told me that she recognised me from the paper's article, and just wanted to say "Hello!"
What a day! People are SO nice!
Thanks again,
Ham.
