I wear a day/blanket plaid, as do several other Macphersons within the Clan Macpherson Association. However, I typically only wear the plaid thrown over my left shoulder at events such as a Highland games, or my clan's gathering and rally. That's about it. And only with Highland day attire. There have been more detailed threads discussing this style of plaid on the forum. Here is one for example:

The late Euan Macpherson of Glentruim, Clan Macpherson Chieftain, almost always wore the day/blanket plaid at the annual Clan Macpherson Gathering and Rally in Badenoch. Sandra Macpherson of Glentruim, Euan's lovely wife, would assist Euan in putting the rather lengthy plaid on. When not in use, the plaid was simply thrown over a chair in the drawing room at Glentruim House near Laggan in Inverness-shire.

    Cheers,

I actually like a day/laird's/shepherd's plaid. I have 3 total and use them for daywear.

    Here is one.

    Looking quite smart, Harold!

I have several as well. I have made it a habit of having a day/blanket plaid correspond with each kilt that I have, which isn't many, just the necessary heavyweight kilts in my clan's tartan. I've always admired how the late Duke of Windsor had his day/blanket plaid, made of Balmoral tartan, hanging neatly adjacent to its matching kilt.

The late Duke of Windsor's wardobe showing his kilt and day/blanket plaid in the restricted, Balmoral tartan. The plaid is hanging directly behind the kilt.

The kilt and day/blanket plaid in action.

    Cheers,
