What do you/would you wear with tartan trews?

Personally, I am a fan of trews. They are different but can look quite smashing.

I would buy a pair if I had the cash.

Matt, I know that you don't offer them on your site but , just out of curiosity, do you ever make trews?

No, and in fact it would definitely look better than a Prince Charlie coatee. But as has been pointed out by others, a longer jacket with turn back cuffs in the Argyle style would be more appropriate and definitely would look better.

What would I wear with tartan trews?
A paper bag over my head in the hope that nobody would recognise me.

Nobody seems to have a problem with them in the Western Highlands and Isles. I have a good friend from Appin who had his tailor make up a pair cut on the bias. They are spectacular.

I had one made by Geoffry The Highland Tailor in Edinburgh several years ago (actually, about 30 years ago!). It was a standard Argyle, but cut to regular suit coat length.

Regulation doublet or mess dress... Of course that is presupposing that you're talking about for evening dress...

Tartan trousers would NEVER bo worn on a day-to-day basis; hence only at some function where the wearer feels the need to sport tartan but is too shy to wear the kilt (such as our esteemed First Minister to much derision).

I too am a fan of properly cut tartan trews, although I am not keen on the cut on the bias versions. Another option that I saw one of my sons come up with the other evening at a smart, but not formal drinks do. He wore a thin pullover over his trews,----- apparently his jackets were at the cleaners-------, something I had not thought of, or seen before and very smart he looked.

I have a pair of fishtail trews in green clergy tartan which I wear with the same kilt jackets and waistcoats that I normally wear with the kilt. Occasionally I have worn the trews with a plain black (so-called Saxon) jacket and waistcoat. Wearing a long waistcoat with a long jacket means that the high-cut waist of the trews is hidden.

Any place that sells made to measure or bespoke kilt jackets should be able to do this. Just order your Argyle jacket made to the length you'd require for a regular suit jacket.
