I generally recommend the Harris to anyone with a calf size over 16", but I have had people with 17" calves wear the Lewis and say they do just fine. That's probably the upper limit of that range, though.

Matt: Any idea when HofC will post their 2013 catalogs on their web pages? Also, beyond the Bowmore redesign will there be any changes to their Country Collection? Thanks.
John
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

These are some of the same questions I was thinking of. I was curious if HoC still made their Eildon line in all of the same colours as shown at the STM Gift Shop website.

As to when House of Cheviot plans to update their web site, I couldn't tell you.
As to differences between the 2012 and 2013 Country catalog, there are a few. My main concern is with their Highland range, keep in mind.
Looking at the two side by side now...
Cashmere stuff looks to be the same.
Windsor sock looks the same.
Instead of the Mayfair crochet top hose, they now have a very similar style called Angus with a slightly different color range.
The Colinsay does not appear in the 2013 catalog.
Eildon are the same.
Paisley are the same except purple color has been replaced with moss.
Tayside are the same.
Grantown are not in the 2013 catalog.
Chessboard are the same.
Stirling are the same.
Sandringham are the same.
Rannoch are the same.
Harris are now offered in an expanded color range.
Bowmore, as I said, are of a completely new style.
Lomond Marl are the same.
Scarba are the same.
The Islay sock is gone, but there is a similar style low sock called Largs offered in a slightly different color range.
The Glen sock is available in one additional color, Bilberry.
The Glencoe is gone.
The Classic Lomond is now available in eight colors instead of four.
Embroidery service still available.
Jura are still available, though packaged differently.
There is a new style of hose called an Estate Field Sock.
Lady Crathie are the same.
Lady Elgin are the same.
Lady Spey is gone.
There is a new style called Lady Angus with a crochet top available in four colors.
A new style called Lady Dunbar with four color options.
Lady Rannoch are the same.
Lady Lomond are the same.
Lady Islay are gone.
The range of non-sock clothing they now offer has been cut. They still offer made to order Plus 3s and waistcoats, as well as the tweed caps. But the range of sweaters is no longer in the 2013 brochure.
I do have a copy of the 2013 country brochure in pdf format that I would be happy to email to anyone on request. Note, I do not normally stock here in the states items from the country line, with the exception of those items for which I have had crossover interest by kilt wearers, such as the Chessboard hose, Bowmore hose, Rannoch hose, etc. But I am able to order anything from the catalog upon request from a retail client. Note: Most items in the country catalog require 3 per size & color to order, so if you are asking a retailer to order one pair of a special style just for you, they may or may not want to do so if it means having two extra pair on the shelf if it is an item they do not normally carry. But hey, it never hurts to ask!

Matt: Thank you very much for the detailed comparison. I opened my 2012 catalog and followed your commentary page by page, line by line. It was most interesting/helpful.
I can only guess that the elimination of the Grantown and Lady Spey lines suggests that the "bias-patterned" tops were not popular and/or profitable. I'm happy I got my Grantown Browns when I did. They go nicely with a couple of my kilts including the Douglas Repro (hard tartan) you made.

Thanks for the heads up Matt. I like the navy so I placed an order. After the order I placed via Amazon it looks like there is only one left.

Some other retailers may have some still in stock, so you can ask around. Heck, I think the STM shop still has a pair or two of yellow and bison Lewis hose on the shelf and those colors have been discontinued in Lewis for years....
