Matt, I have a question about the Rannoch kilt hose that are on the scottishkilthose.com website. They look similar to the Lewis hose and very different from the Rannoch country socks which are on the Amazon site, are the Rannoch kilt hose and the Rannoch country socks actually completely different? Especially the Bracken colour which looks very different

The Rannoch kilt hose look to come in some great colours, colours which are very much missing from the Lewis range.

Thanks Matt, I think I may be ordering some soon as the photos on your site really do look fantastic and they will make a nice change from the few pairs of Lewis hose I already have.

Well there you go. :-) I had no idea your calves were that large, Rocky. I certainly cannot argue with your personal experience. I just now took a pair of Lewis hose off my shelf and stretched the tops out as far as I could with my hands (the part where the cuff is sewn onto the sock base, which is the important part in determining calf circumference). At the maximum stretch I get 9" across, which means roughly 18" max capacity. So yes, they would fit someone with 18" calves, or possibly a bit larger, but I'd be afraid they would start to feel like they are cutting into your legs if it is too much larger than 18" around.

My calves are one of my few positive physical attributes.

I agree... 19" would be a bit snug, but compared to other hose brands, the customer would at least be able to pull them on.

So do the Rannoch stretch as much as the Lewis , as I previously thought neither would fit my 17 1/2 inch calves. But in the wake of Rocky's post and Matt's measurement these once dreamed about hose could possibly now be a reality to some of us GOS ?.

Ooh, purple is back. IIRC purple was dropped from the line shortly after I got married and almost immediately after I got the homeymoon paid off, so I will hazard a guess purple was dropped from the 2012 catalogue...

Yeah, the Rannoch and Lewis are pretty much equivalent, with the Rannoch hose being a bit longer overall due to extra ribbing in the cuff. But they should fit your 17.5" calves just fine.
