Thanks for all the information
In details, they say about jackets "evening jacket of black broadcloth or coloured velvet": so I suppose a black barathea crail jacket is suitable or should it be a case of refusal for such an event ?

MacThomas, you won't be refused if you are "well" dressed. A black Crail or Argyll can be an "evening" jacket; think within the guidelines when it comes to all the other bits and bobs.

For a good variety of photos of those attending google the Royal Caledonian Ball photos from the Tattler, they go back 5-10 years. Same doublets,sporrans and faces pop up year after year. One photo the of a young Lord, courtesy title from his father peerage, using a bit of twine for sporran straps.
