When I was a volunteer firefighter, I adapted a uniform that I would call the Class B to a kilted wearing, but only wore it a few times. I did not get a jacket, although I had thought of using an Ike jacket, like the Arizona Corrections guy are. I simply wore a uniform sweater that I have always called a commando sweater in dark blue with my regular patches on it. I did wear my regular badge, as I was looking for this to be a variation of the uniform and not a variation of civilian clothes. Although I wore my own kilt, not any tartan specifically picked for the fire service.

At my wedding, the piper was from the New York City Police Emerald Society and he wore a regular uniform shirt, with his kilt, I believe they wear a unit patch for the Emerald Society on the right arm and the standard NYPD patch on the left. He wore his badge and carried a sidearm, although it was in a holster that was seemed more ornamental than functional. Still the overall look was that he was obviously a police officer.

I am thinking of doing a similar adaptation for my uniform at the Security Company I work part time at. I am pretty sure I can get it approved as my boss really does not care much about uniforms and while he doesn't like them too formal, he pretty much lets anything go. I would likely only have occasion to wear it once or twice a year, but oddly enough the colors in my XMTS kilt would look great with the rest of that particular uniform.

In my Department, the pipers and drummers were absorbed into the existing Honor Guard. The uniform is different from our Class A and consists of the following: kilt, Glengarry (diced for drummers) with cap badge, horsehair sporran, and a dark blue Eisenhower jacket with our badge.
    Cheers,

Is that seriously one of their official uniforms? If so that is pretty cool.

Something I'm surprised no one has mentioned is the Law Enforcement Memorial Tartan:

This would, I think, be an excellent option.

So with that being said, a friend of mine, Officer Cliff Hunter of the Aurora PD, occasionally wears his Hunter tartan kilt when he has office duty. He's said "What are they gonna do- fire me?" Gods bless him...
