    lenten vestments

    Nothing kilt-related here

A while back I decided that a pastor-friend of mine needed some new vestments. I settled on black and purple, for Ash Wednesday and Lent, and here they are. Everything is reversible. There's a chasuble, stole, maniple, which you can see, and a burse and chalice veil (which you can't see). The cross on the black side is made from burlap, to visually remind the congregation of the "sackcloth and ashes" nature of Ash Wednesday. Without further ado, here they are:

Thanks for looking. We now return you to your regularly scheduled kilt stuff.

Kilt related or not, those are beautiful! I'm sure he appreciates it and the thought behind it is priceless.

Thanks, lads. I think burlap is called "hessian" in the UK.

Now all he needs is a nice 8-yard tank in the clergy tartan...

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the clergy tartan a variation of the Clark tartan?

    Great looking vestments, btw.

I'm probably going to get shot for this, but "Clark" and "cleric" seem to come from the same origins and roots: One who is able to read & write. Thus, perhaps not surprising that they would have certain resemblences built (woven? )in.

Tartans "Clergy" and "Clark" are the same thing. However, I don't think I'll get this Lutheran pastor into a kilt. The only times he's not wearing all black and the collar is when he's mowing his yard or walking the dogs late at night.

Father Bill, do you have any experience with fiddleback chasubles, similar to this one?
