    Humour the buffoon

who can't identify a no doubt perfectly obvious tartan! I've abstracted this image from a second-hand auctioneers, a very well known and slightly disreputable one, as I was fascinated by this tartan (which is nagging me as I can't identify it & feel I ought to know what it is!) and I don't think it my place to give the seller custom!

PS: Of course, it could be what was known as a bumbee or commercial tartan.

It looks very much like a Fraser variant, but not exactly. The blues and greens are reversed, and the dividing stripe is wrong. I'll dig around and see if I can identify it, but if it can't be identified then it's probably a commercial tartan made to resemble Fraser while not actually being a Fraser tartan.

Edited to add: It might be Roxburgh Red (ancient).

No buffoon. As has been discussed in a current thread, few Scots recognize a lot of tartans other than their own clan and the "classics." No shame in asking!

Which of course looks very different to the original Wilsons' shades.

Yes I contacted the seller with that info.

I wouldn't have known it otherwise perhaps, but a Pipe Band that I used to play in wears that very tartan! The Kevin Blandford Memorial Pipe Band.

    Here I am wearing it

HOEs Muted Range is lovely and really stands out from other colour schemes.

Here is my old dear friend Kevin Blandford himself wearing that tartan, which he wore as his personal kilt. After his passing the entire band adopted it
