And now for something completely different...
I was purusing the B&S website last night and stumbled upon something that made me scratch my head. I didn't hate it and I'm not quite sure about how one would wear it.
It is an all-tartan modern kilt. I hesitate to call it a MUG because it so much more resembles a traditional kilt but is definately a modern invention.
I don't know if one of these is for me but it got my attention.
Any pics or thoughts, rabble?

Are you referring to the BILT Kilt? They came out a few years ago. I have seen them up close, it's basically a modern take on a box pleated kilt made from 2yds of double width if I remember correctly.

Yeah, we need more information here Bren.
Since I am a tartan Geek I am guessing B&S is Burnett and Struth.

Yes! That's the one. I didn't remember what it was called. Thanks.
I am still scratching my head trying to formulate an opinion of it.
I like tartan. I like box pleats. Not sure if I like the cargo pockets. I saw that traditionql height is an option, which, to me, makes it stand out from MUGS.
Any opinions from kilt makers and more experienced folks would be greatly appreciated. How would you wear one of these and not look like a punk rocker? Could You wear it with normal day accessories like a sporran? Is this similar to a Freedom Kilt, for example? I have yet to see the front apron. Is it full-sized or narrow?
It doesn't seem to be anything like a Utilikilt, which is good because I really don't like Utilikilts.
Any and all thoughts welcome. I still haven't decided whether or not I like it so I welcome all opinions. Thank you.
Funny that you posted the photo of the Holyrood version from their site. I am awaiting delivery of a kilt in that tartan from Rocky.

While I suppose it's better than the typical utility kilt, I'd say it's not for me. Like the tartan and box pleats, but don't care for the big pockets.

Yeah. Ummmmm. No. Actually it is similar to what I make, but I make a pair of pleated cargo pockets to hang off the belt....gives me options...I do not dig those pocketses though.

Those are HUGE box pleats. Seven total? The contrasting pockets also leave me cold. Sorry, not my cup of Scotch, but to each his own.

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't know if it's for me but there are things that I do like about it.
It's good that we can "*Keek" out about it. It gets the discussion going.
