Yep, friction is the enemy here, hence the biking shorts, and a lighter weight kilt, and the recommedation for the PV kilt as opposed to wool. Plus, PV kilts can be thrown in the washing machine after the race.

Gonna be "running" in a tank next week...for a 5k run walk...guess I'll be mostly walking...but its gonna be cold so the tank is the choice...or maybe leather.
Main thing in running or hiking kilted is PROTECT your boy parts from friction....and you may find the kilt hem beats the back of your knees up pretty bad from repeated impact....sort of like a water drip torture...its not the impact but the repeated light impact. Best way to find out is go try it out.

Aye, the point is, it's not unknown. I'd prefer the Sportkilt.
And, compression shorts will probably be a lot better than bike shorts. Most of mine have too much chamois pad to be comfy running. Triathlon shorts, maybe.

Well since it's not wrapped, and not pleated in back, it's not really kilt, is it? Just a running skirt intended for men.

Yeah, I have a skort that looks much the same.
As far as what it's worn over... I went sort of o.O when I saw they were saying something about possibly not wearing anything underneath. Aside from my thought that undies would serve the same purpose as a sport bra for women... there's no way you could run in that thing-- especially since it looks like it maybe has big slits on the sides!-- and not get arrested!

I did the cupid's undie run in a stillwater one, albeit not a long run, the only real issue was the wind which fortunately dropped for the run...

Mrs.Crash and I did the kilt run in Perth Ontario this past summer and are signed up to do it again this year. The idea behind the kilt run was to set the Guinness world record for most kilted runners, which we did beating out Perth Scotland and Perth Australia. We wore Sportkilts as did many others but most wore kilts that were offered for sale by the organizers. The run is 8km/5miles through city streets and the golf course cart paths. http://perthkiltrun.blogspot.ca
I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.
