I usually wind up between six and eight box pleats in a kilt...2.5-3" pleats...but then I am pretty scrawny and long waisted...with a one inch rise I sew an eight inch fell, before the waistband goes on...

As you can imagine I don't do well with low rise pants. lol

It seems to be halfway between a traditional kilt and a Utilikilt.

Utilikilts have established their own "look" which, at least here on The Left Coast, has taken a more or less equal place beside traditional Highland Dress in the Scottish community.

It will be interesting to see what sort of "look" emerges with this new hybrid, if it catches on.

I, for one, hope that it does not catch on. I do not like the look at all.

I am absolutely gobsmacked. I still can't decide whether or not I like it.

    It certainly is different.

I think I would like it more if the price was lower, I feel like half the reason behind a utilikilt and that general style is to be able to remain kilted and at the same time not really have to worry about ruining your kilt if you have to do a bit of heavy work. However, at $380 dollars it costs more than a 5 yard wool from USA kilts, I feel like it sort of defeats its own purpose.

I like this. My Built Kilt is made of blue jean material. The main reason I decided on buying the Built Kilt was to get the box pleats.

The other thing that stands out about these kilts is the double stitching. real well made and strong. I like my Amerikilt too but the stitching is minimal on it and my belt loops have broken away.

I hope everybody followed the link that ShawnMaxwell posted before they judged these kilts. One of the interesting things about them is the level of customization available. The idea is that the Bilt Kilt is custom built, so they needn't have visible pockets or contrasting inserts if that isn't what you like.

They also have their own website:

    True, CMcG.

I saw that you can, essentially, make it into a modified version of a traditional kilt with a high rise but a distincty modern twist...but it STILL looks like a kilt instead of one of those awful Utilikraps.

Agreed. If you can take off thise pockets, then it is pretty much just another box pleat kilt by all appearances. That is fine, I guess, but I am not a fan of this particular styling.
